Workshop :: Setting Up a Recording Session with Jam Phelps

February 26, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Join core faculty member Jam Phelps in a three hour, hand-on workshop to learn how to set up a recording session from start to finish.

The most important step in the recording process is capturing a clear signal, but it can feel intimidating to know exactly what to do to ensure a high quality recording. Omni core faculty member Jam Phelps will lead a three hour workshop designed to help you learn how to record musicians, from singer songwriters to a full band.

In the first half of the workshop, class participants will explore the topics of preparing for a recording session, gear needed (from a dream set up to more budget friendly options), proper mic placement and direct input options, mic’ing specific instruments, and proper tracking.

The second half of the workshop will include a collaborative practice focusing on selecting the optimal settings and mic placement for best results in a hypothetical recording session.

Everyone who attends the workshop will be entered to win a pair of Sennheiser’s HD 400 PRO studio headphones.

Omni Online classes are open to all genders. This workshop is appropriate for those with some basic experience recording music and sound, but adventurous beginners are welcome. Class attendance is limited to allow for participation.
