DESCRIPTION:Learn audio production and basic recording techniques used in recording everything from podcasts to music.\n\n\nLevel up your skills in audio with WAM virtually!  \nClasses take place on the following 8 Mondays: \n2/7\, 2/14\, 2/21\, 2/28\, 3/7\, 3/14\, 3/21\, 3/28 \n6:30pm-9:00pm PST each day \nIn this 8-class series you will: \n\nGain an understanding of the physics and science behind sound\nLearn basic recording techniques\, and about signal flow and the recording chain\nLearn how microphones work and basic microphone selection and placement\nLearn the basics of digital audio and recording with digital audio workstations like Pro Tools\nLearn how to solder and make your own cables!\n\nThis is a foundational level course that provides the necessary skills for basic recording\, production\, and digital technologies. Classes include a combination of lecture and hands-on learning. We recommend taking Level 1 as a prerequisite to all other WAM classes.  \nLocation: Online via zoom. Please download the zoom app prior to class.  \nSuggested technical requirements: computer\, internet access\, audio interface\, microphone\, and headphones. Participants will be instructed to download Pro Tools First (free version) if needed.  \n***NOTE: Attendees can receive refunds up to 7 days before your event start date. \n———– \nAbout the Instructor: \nHeidi Trefethen is a sound engineer\, multi-instrumentalist\, and producer with over 25 years of experience in the industry. As a live sound engineer\, she has worked with Shawn Colvin\, Joan Baez\, Herb Alpert and Lani Hall\, Odetta\, Dar Williams\, Jonatha Brooke\, Peter and Paul of Peter\, Paul and Mary\, Don McLean\, Joan Armatrading\, Buffy Sainte-Marie\, Holly Near\, and Jane Siberry. \nShe teaches Music Production\, Mixing\, Mastering and Recording\, Film Scoring\, and Audio For Visual Media at the SFJAZZ Digital Lab. \nHeidi is also a professional French Hornist who has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic; Il Teatro dell’Opera di Roma\, in Rome\, Italy; the JazzUp Festival in Viterbo\, Italy; and the SFJAZZ Monday Night Band\, the Sacramento Philharmonic\, Opera and Ballet\, Silicon Valley Symphony\, North State Symphony\, and Santa Rosa Symphony in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has performed and given master classes in Italy\, Thailand\, Vietnam\, Israel\, Turkey\, and Guatemala. \n———– \nWomen’s Audio Mission focuses on increasing the gender balance in audio production and technology sectors since less than 5% of the population employed in these sectors are women. In addition to reporting and producing\, Shia has taught radio to young people for WNYC’s Radio Rookies\, for UNICEF in Haiti\, and at the college level both at Mills College in Oakland and at Brooklyn College in New York City. She has produced podcasts for UNICEF and has advised other podcasts on both technical aspects and content. Shia recently joined KALW as a news editor. DESCRIPTION:Our Essentials of Live & Touring course is a training course covering the basics of live and touring.\n\n\nThe Essentials of Live & Touring looks at what managers need to know to launch their acts live-career. Navigating the live industry can be confusing and messy\, and when the live sector opens back up it will be essential that managers are equipped with knowledge and information to tackle the hurdles ahead.  \nThe course takes place on ZOOM and is split up over two days. \n22nd  March  2022: 10AM – 3PM \n23rd March 2022: 10AM-3PM \nThe course is delivered by Ray Paul (The Playmaker Group).  \nLinks will be sent out on the day of the event. \nTickets cost £132 (inc.VAT.) DESCRIPTION:Brighter Sound and More Music present a music education and youth arts conference exploring the positive pathways available to young people.\n\n\nFor project managers\, programme managers\, freelancers\, music hub and service leads\, music tutors\, policy makers and anyone interested in inclusive music activity for children and young people. \nPositive Pathways will interrogate different avenues into creative careers for young people\, including: \n\nHow organisations and individuals can support career progression\nOpportunities to break down music making barriers for young people\nPractical examples of different models we can adopt\nChallenging what makes a ‘successful’ career\n\nThere were so many new perspectives for me! A real celebration and exploration of what works\, and could work. \nFeaturing: \n\nA keynote from Roger Wilson (Black Lives in Music) on what we can do as a community to enable progression\n“Get A Real Job!” – a live podcast by young leaders discussing creative careers\, existing barriers and how we can support progression. With Jeff Thompson (Un-Convention) and more guests to be announced\nAn interactive workshop with Julia Payne (the hub) on how we can build\, support and maintain a healthy and happy workforce. With honest discussions on working conditions\, fair pay\, wellbeing\, and how we can unify our approach\nProvocations on being relevant\, accessible and inclusive with Lucy Wallace (Brighter Sound)\, Jo Yee Cheung (Olympias Music Foundation) and Sarah Fisher. How can we enable access to progression routes for young people from all ages and backgrounds in a responsible way?\nA musical inclusion presentation and discussion with specialist Phil Mullen. Following his work with 46 music hubs\, he’ll explore understandings of inclusion and shared areas for development \nLive music curated and performed by the Youth Reaching Out Network\nOpportunities to meet and connect with other musicians and educators\n\nPositive Pathways is about being bold\, challenging ourselves and feeling inspired to make change.  \nThis event will be BSL interpreted. \n\n\nWhere and When \nThursday 24 March\, 9.30am-5.30pm at Contact\, a short distance from Oxford Road Station and Manchester city centre. \nHead to their website for full information about transport links\, parking and COVID measures in place (which we’ll be adhering to on the day). \nOnline tickets are available for those unable to make the conference in-person.  \n\n\nTickets \nOrganisations: £30 in-person\, £15 online \nFreelancers: £20 in-person\, £10 online \nUnwaged\, students\, apprentices and trainees: Free \nPrice includes lunch and refreshments throughout the day. \n\n\nThis event is part of the Reaching Out Network – a training\, development and future-thinking network for project managers\, programme managers and anyone planning and managing inclusive music activity across the North West for children and young people. \nThe Reaching Out Network is delivered in partnership by Brighter Sound and More Music\, and is supported by Youth Music as part of the Alliance for a Musically Inclusive England\, which is made possible by funding from the National Lottery via Arts Council England.
